It says nothing about being invented to lift straight up. It was a STOL machine at first, and hovering became a bonus!

It needs no tail rotor to be called a helicopter. Neither does a CH46 Chinnook or the Russian full size coaxial helicopter.

I built his for fun and to see if it would work. It did and I got paid for it! I have plenty of other videos on it describing the benefits, how it works and how it flies.

Who cares what I call it!!??

I am amazed that some of you worry about minor things like this.

Most who put it down, couldn't fly it anyway. Those same people would crash their model airplanes too and blame the manufacturer.

Real planes cannot take crashes either! Why the heck do you think a model airplane or helicopter can take the same abuse.

And those of you who try to learn on your own because you don't want to ask for help, I wonder if you would jump into a real heli or plane and think you could fly it without lessons!

So for all the so-called "purists" that like to make fun of my title, (which has nothing to do with my ingenuity in this machine) and argue it is not a helicopter),I present this definition right directly quoted from the Websters dictionary!

I'M USING A WEATHERVANE EFFECT PROVE A POINT! EXPLODING Helicopters for movies in the 70's gave me the idea, when I found I could land helicopters like airplanes when the tail rotor was blown off.

This video shows how we pioneered the equipment by being persistent. So now, is your speed control burned out? Tail rotor broken? You don't need one to have some fun with an old electric heli.

(Oh, and by the way, there are no real full size electric helicopters)!

In this video, I take you through some of my personal history of Model Notars 1978) and electric Tail Rotor motors. (1979)

On my first Electric Tail Rotor MOTOR,(ETRM) Victor Kmosek of Victor Engineering made me a special speed control to run the 2 540 can motors and the tail rotor #370 motor.

There were no electric mixers for those, so it was a handful and the speed controllers got red hot and burned out alot, even with big heatsinks. Today we use pulse code, so they are very efficient.

Testing was hard too, since 1100 mah nicad batteries were about as big as you could get. There were no NiMh or LiPo batteries then, thus limiting flight times a lot.

And on top of that, it was FUN to be able to be able to FLY something, the NAYSAYERS said couldn't. Kyosho (biggest Model Manufacturer in Japan) thought it was a fabulous Idea, manufactured it and it was the Largest Selling model in their history.

It has become part of science experiments, featured in Aviation and Space Technology, and on Display at the San Diego Aerospace museum, in the AMA's History of Model Aviation display. I am proud to have proven that if you never give up, you will succeed.
