Online social commentary (media commentary):

XK K123 AS350 micro collective pitch RC helicopter review; including unboxing, inspection, binding, setup & flying. If you're looking for a micro sized, brushless, highly detailed scale collective pitch RC helicopter to conveniently fly in your yard or at the indoor club fun fly, the XK K123 AS350 is worth consideration.

Efficiency and weight are not its strong points, but can be overlooked if your primary goal is a nice scale RC heli flying experience in a small package for around $100 USD. A very good value.

Common questions/comments addressed: 1. What radio are you using in the video? FrSky Horus X12S. 2. Correction. The bars on the boom are not "step plates" as I mistakenly say in the video, they are VOR antennas (balanced loop VOR antennas to be exact). 3. What's the current price? Click on the above links in the description to find current pricing at Banggood for both the BNF & RTF versions. 4. Is this a hobby grade RC helicopter? Yes - you can get replacement parts for it.

That’s freaking amazing. I used to daydream about how cool it would be to have tiny remote control helicopters when I was a kid- now we’ve got sub-6” helicopters, quads the size of a silver dollar. Amazing.
What a great little scale heli. Looks fantastic, you wouldn’t buy one of these for aerobatic flight but more than exceeds that for scale. If I get back into RC I’d like one of these. Fantastic presentation of the review, nice and clear and easy to follow. Will check out more of your vids. Cheers, Alan.
I used to have one of these exactly! I wanted a budget micro heli that flew to scale. Loved it. Beat it to absolute death before retiring it
I remember when they started selling this thing a few years ago it cost around $ 88 RTF. It was my first CP and it was a blast.
19:33 - the radio control announces "shit is about to get real" - I love it!!!
A very comprehensive and articulate presentation. I have a great passion for RC helis, although I've somewhat "cooled off" in the last several years, but recently started flying my 500 class ships again. I'm quite intrigued by the open TX concept and know absolutely nothing about it. Seeing this vid has me thinking that open TX might be just the thing to really fire me up again. Thanks for your work! I'll definitely be exploring a lot more of it!
"Thank you so much for posting your settings on this great little heli.
I was having a hard time keeping it in the air with the manual settings.
Now I have tamed it down and things are so much easier to handle.
Keep up the great work."
"Nice review mate!
By the way, the 3 blade head is very noticeable in flight in the vid. It's probably due to the filming process though. This model is almost a carbon copy of WL Toys AS350. The WL Toys RTF came with a switchable-mode Tx, which I'd never seen before. Pretty amazing for around $120 (AUD). Sadly, they may have discontinued the line as I don't see them on Ebay now. I'll keep an eye out for this one!"
"Hi John, a little story/question for you. My cousin bought a K123 from Motion RC, but they must have gotten a bad batch. On the first one that I set up and flew for him the tail motor would go out sporadically in flight on only the second or third pack. I was able to land somewhat softly the couple times it happened while flying circuits around my yard.

The second K123 he got after the other was returned had the same problem, I set it up, test flew it a couple times just hovering around and a few days later he flew it and had the same thing happen! Except this time it crashed hard and the swashplate popped apart.

Any idea on if it would be the motor, or the board? The first one had the wires out of the back of the motor damaged when the factory installed it, the second heli looked fine though."
Hey wow! Tons of great info packed into a beginner copter review. Subbed. Ran across this vid by chance. Thank you! great stuff
I'd actually would love to have a helicopter like this. The only helicopter I have is a WLTOYS V950. The only problem is it's size is small which could mean it wears out after 1 month or so. I mean its almost $200 and the mechanics look very protected
"I have a 450, every ""crash"" almost full rebuild - I love this, I`ve crashed it often & still goes, albeit the scale parts are broken.
It is very durable, spare parts are cheap. I would suggest a sympler ccp to start , though. E.g.: WLtoys V977 if you can find it."
A scale heli that can do a bit of 3D.. Impressive. Thanks JS! L&S
Great Review! I'm wondering for practicing General Flying & 3D flight would i be better off getting a Trex 150 size or the XK, I do love the scale detail though and would fly in both modes equally. Regards
Just received mine today. Beautiful little helicopter. Your review was great. You know your stuff!! Thank you.
That tx is awesome, " shits about to get real " love it , i have the blue one but use the tx that came with it , nice flying dude
I just got one of these about a week ago and loving it. But I'm curious if you can ease the sensitivity (dual rate?) with the XK Transmitter that comes with it, because indeed, she's a bit touchy.
My word, things have come on since I flew my Ikarus Piccolo and Century Hummingbird using a JR 3310 (which i still have !!) - I even had a vac form mould made so I could make and sell AS350 bodies for the Piccolo - but they were so under powered back then it just about made it into the hover ! - this little heli looks the business, especially being CP and tri-bladed
Hey that's pretty cool! Kinda makes me want to get into helis!
Este bastante bueno ese heli aun con su escala peque?ísima se ve bien en vuelo
My first chopper was a 350 class bird I had nearly 8 years ago. For the life of me, could never fly it. Then, started my interest in quadcopters. 7 years and I'm a pretty good quadcopter pilot. Purchased a flybar brushless WL Toys V912 just recently.. I guess my quadcopter skills made it easy to fly. Indoors that is. Today, did some flying around the house outside and nosed it in the ground. Broke a few connection links in the main rotor. I think a combination of the cold temp and losing power. Do you find the collective pitch birds do better with handling the main rotor tilting and gaining speed without losing altitude? Also, I have a rule of thumb on quads... Want to fly outside? Got to go minimum of 2 cell for the power. IMO, anything one cell is just under powered..
The "step" on the tail boom are handles for rolling the helicopter when it's on its wheels.
"John love your channel. I love your style of flying too. I have to ask you a question what kind of transmitter are you using. I have the WLtoys V977 More of a 3D Helicopter. You like the
Scalers which are nice as well."
The hoops on the tail boom are Antennas. I fly these machines.
I wonder if you could add a triple blade tail prop to that; I'm still getting one though.
WOW! This looks such fun!
Rc so much more complex now, than when my old man was into it in the late 60s .....
Good review, and great catch on that hex-nut driver issue.
I learned to fly on the xk k124 rtf and phoenix sim. Proceeded to Align t-rex 470l with out a problem
"thanks ..i last flew a proper heli was like 30yrs ago , concept 30 and a hirobo shuttle ^-^
very tempted to try 1 of this !"
I'm not sure how I got here. I really don't have an interest in RC helicopters but you make a great video. I felt like you were very clear and provided lots of detail that I (as someone not familiar with the subject material) was able to follow. A very interesting video to watch. Thank you.
Hey John, was looking at that neat little bird. I was wondering if you can bind the Heli to the Spektrum nx10 using your technic by using the jr/spectrum satellite receiver
Thanks for sharing, I love the small helicopters. You are great for the hobby
I'm equaly amazed at the little helicopter and the radio :P My DX6i doesn't even have a LCD backlight. If it started speaking I'd probably burn it xD But that FrSky radio was really cool :P
"Hi John, great video and thanks for your amazing website.
I am right now in the point of jump from 4ch to 6ch. I am right now looking for a proper rc radio. Do you think an open tx radio like the t16 or the taranis is it too difficult for a beginner?
I really like to thinker with all the computer and coding things.
Have you added or planed to add how to use and setup helis in open tx in your ebooks?
Thank you so much for your amazing work."
Amazing flight
"When I was a kid (late 50's early 60's) I had a toy die cast helicopter that I ""flew"" everywhere I went.
We lived in a big city then and I think about how it must have looked to people in the street. They must have gotten a kick out of it.
I would dream of having a toy helicopter that could do this. But don't you get bored just zipping it around aimlessly? Try going for a walk with it. Bet you'll enjoy it !"
Great review and John, I love that radio your using....definitely have to work my way up to that...may I ask what camera are you using and is it a hat cam of sorts.
Looks great!
Hello John, in this video you mentioned that this helicopter would not be good for beginners learning to fly as it has some fragile parts. I have recently gotten into the hobby using a coaxial helicopter (syma s111g) and am looking to take a step up and try to learn to fly collective pitch. Do you have any recommendations for me on which models would be good to start with? I much prefer a machine that actually looks like a helicopter which is why I have gravitated towards the XK models. I appreciate any recommendations that you can provide, thank you.
Beautyfull how it moves .
those arnt step plates in the back on the tail cone. those are antennas, and usually theres only one on the right side. (helicopter A&P)
Nice video - what type of radio is that you're using? I want to upgrade my 7 year old Spektrum DX6, and start flying again this month. Have about 20 small helos (all the Blade models) and some 300 and 4xx sized. I might try this helo out as it's so cheap.
Thanks for the review
"looks fantastic. how did you set your radio for the model i.e the switches and channels for gyro and acro modes.
I've bought the k124 , but stuck in the process of setting up my taranis with irx4. Any help would be accepted."
Thanks for the review John, cheers
I am trying to make a fire fighting rc helicopter. Would it work if I got a small Dixie cup and attached it to the heli with a thread? I would then either fill up the cup or have it get picked up from a pond. I would also make a water dropping mechanism. Would it work?
John, where can I find the thumb paddles similar to the ones on your transmitter sticks? Thanks!
Hi I bought an xk123 and use opentx like you, but I'm inexperienced on programming. Could you share the programming file? I use it as a school. Thank you
Hi, they are not ‘step plates’ on the boom they are vor/localiser antennas.
yeah it will fly inverted, only with a skilled pilot like yourself. Great flying buddy.
Oh my friend you have all the type of rc helicopter which I wanted to much ?.
What remote are you using? Love the voice prompts “ it’s about to get real’ & “ you may wanna think about landing’” thanks for the vid. I see in your comments about the remote. Thanks
I think i need to get one of these :)
I believe the back step plates are really antennas
can it do a normal hover for more than 2 seconds?
i bought one it flew great, but the batteries only lasted around 4 months and it was impossible to get replacements. Whole thing had to be trashed. In the end, great fun while it lasted, but a total waste of money.
what radio are you using? i wanna check it out might buy it it looks cool
Is it possible to jam a 700maH battery (from the k124) into this?
I've never seen a radio that speaks! That must be very expensive! What brand of radio is this?
Hi John!! How could you bind Irangex IR4+ with the chopper?? I made your procedure enterely without positive results! I have the same Tx and External module and this crap do NOTHING!!! Neither on PPM protocol in OpenTx, it used to work on FrOs!!! It's frustating!
Hey Thanks Great video and insight
nice backyard. What place it is?
Would You Say This Is Very Durable/Crash Resistance?
Excelente ????????????????
Utterly charming.....
总觉得像真机飞3D不是多正经
Hey Thanks enjoyed the video and information
I ordered one too but got lost in the mail, your lucky get this
What's the price of your large one? In the beginning of the video and the price?
I love the talking remote you have.
New to rc helicopters, will it bind to an rc helicopter controller I already have? It has channels called A,B and C, from a cheap rc helicopter I bought 2 weeks ago
The one on the tailboom ‘Anteena’ i guess
I wish I have one of those
Do they make an ass355 or twinstar i so need one of them
Can it be bound to a horizonhobby rc system?
Great pilot
I'm wondering how much money you make to review these products if any!
John Salt...just discovered you on U tube....have purchased your Heli-E books in pastimes..glad i found you here !!!!
Nice flying
i got 2 hand fulls of scale 600 size fiberglass fuselages vintage

Should I buy K123 or K124?
What kind of controller should I get ? I am a first time buyer.
There should be a little Allen key in the pack ...
Looks great, sounds horrible. Needs fine module gears
I don't want to spend a lot of money but I need a transmitter that will work with that helicopter got any recommendations?
Waaaaay to complicated....never get that thing in the air
Nice helicopter ready for awesome rescues.
lol i want one now. wish it was like 40$ cheaper so i could get one.
Battery low, shit is about to get real 19:30
