29 year old Vintage Hirobo Stork Helicopter finally finished and flown.. RC Helicopters | Radio Control Scale Models, RC Helicopters For Sale | Buy Remote Control Helicopter
*When I got a call from a fellow about his Vintage Hirobo Helicopter made in Japan, I was intrigued. It was one of the most modern helicopters of the day in 1987. He wound up sending it to me so I could try to get it completed and flown. Never did I think I would ever by another NiMh Battery after LiPos, but I had to for the heli and transmitter too. There also were more learning curves along the way, as usual. This was a Gorham Model Products version of the Hirobo Stork, and thus why it is called the special edition. John Gorham imported Hirobo's and ran GMP for many years. He is famous in his own right. I hope you enjoy seeing what it was like to fly the most modern of helicopters 29 years ago in 1987.
Thanks for watching and I hope you stay tuned for more.

Looks great Dave, Nice job sorting her out. I like watching you fly her around.
Thanks.
What a trip down memory lane! Great work! I had a 40 size Dubro back in the mid
70's. Man it was so tedious and every time you touched it you had to go through
the entire setup procedure again! We are so lucky today!
"Super video mr. Herbert! This is what I subbed for (years ago) :D
Thanks for the history lesson Again and good entertainment offcourse :)
Congrats on getting her airworthy :D
Cheers and have a great weekend"
Mr. Herbert, you mentioned that you were very well versed with nitro engines. I
find I struggle with them. It would be great to see a video on them! Thank you
for everything you do for this hobby. I'm sure we all look forward to learn more
from you!
I loved it!! I am in my late 50's and remember these gassers at the flying
field. You are my hero keep up the awesome work you do and thanks for the
memories.
Thank you so much Mr. Herbert for sharing this video. All the respect you
deserve, I give to you. This video is a classic. You took us back in time in a
special way. You Sir are a real hobbyist. Thank you again and don't stop making
videos!
Amazing video Dave and what a heli!! The process you went through to get her
flying again was just marvellous and the problem solving/diagnosing was spot
on.we are all spoiled now with pre-built helicopters and modern electronics
these days that's for sure.great video thanks for sharing your experience with
all of us :) kind regards from here in England,Jason
Mr Herbert. Thanks for all you share with us! Hope Jeff will find time to be in
your vids more! Your Rc abilities are amazing thanks for sharing!!
I've watched hundreds of your videos and for me this was one of if not the best.
It humbles me too see the care and attention, fault diagnosis and debuging/tuning
you do. I get upset when my Blade SR cp gets a bit tail waggy and my skills as a
heli pilot cannot cope. You sir are an inspiration to hard work and experience.
Respect. Fab video and unquestionable skills, just epic. Thank you for this.
Thanks Dave, that brought back some memories. The new heli's sure do fly a lot
better, but that old beast shows how good of a mechanic and pilot you really
are. I know i couldn't get that thing flight worthy, much less fly it, kudos to
you ol chap
Great job Dave love seeing these vintage aircraft fly again
Loved your history lesson. Really liked the work you put into that heli
I love watching these classic helis come to life. We had a guy bring a hirobo
heli to the field the other day, it took us all day to get it set up. Finaly
that afternoon we got it to take off and fly. Im glad we had a more experianced
heli guy there. That heli taught me alot.
You've still got it Dave! That's quite a project you knocked out there.
Der Dave, that video took me back to the good-old-days of the Dump Masters as I
flew up the road backwards at 65mph. I never imagined the complexity, because
you made it look so easy, until you said: "I haven't got it and we all hit the
deck...! I am so proud to see your tenacity and grit, you never quit, and it
seems just like yesterday when you flew those gas choppers of 29-plus years ago.
It's humbling and inspiring to see how you worked out all of the bugs and fixed
the flaws in the old Stork, and made that proud bird fly and perform its tricks.
Only an aero master could do what you did and I salute you for sharing your
inspired video. Semper Fi, you never quit! Rkt-Man
Stoked for you. Seems like a blast one you worked out the issues;-) Thanks for
posting your honest experience!
What a great story!! Thanks for telling it, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this
video! You have a fantastic youtube channel, congratulations. Best regards from
Brasilia, Brazil.
Great video. Good to see your still posting videos! Haven't watched your channel
scince I was into storm launchers keep making new videos!!
Dave you're one of the few people out there with the patience and knowledge to
get that old bird flying. Thanks for sharing.
I admire your courage, and knowledge. Nice video :)
Thanks for sharing. Now what would a heli from the late 70 ' s be like to fly?
Been away from this channel for a while, Glad you are still doing what you do so
well at!
Very impressive. This really takes patients, skill, knowledge and engineering to
make it a success. Well done Mr Herbert! Oh and nerves of steel.
"Great video Dave. I love older model helicopter and airplanes I would really
like to see you convert your old Kraft signature series transmitter to 2.4 I
have a lot of ek logictrol transmitters that I still fly with and would like
also to convert them to 2.4 please post a video when you get time
Jon"
"Great job on getting that old school nitro helicopter back in the air again
Dave quick question I notice your flying by a cemetery
has anyone who works ever complained about you flying there?"
your videos are awesome I relay enjoy them keep up the good work
Hey Top, nice seeing you flying the "Real Helis" again. Always the Top Notch
Pilot!!!
Beautiful heli!
I'm an RC helicopter guy so I watched this entire vid. Excellent work and video
documenting of it all. It looks like the seller sold it to the right guy. I
would have pissed my pants if I seen one of these helicopters actually fly like
that back in good old 1987 when I was an elementary school kid.
"Dude! That was sooo cool.
Who the hell gave this vid a thumbs down!?"
"Very educational and a delight to watch how things went with this heli.
Had to laugh when you said that parts are more than scarce and then made your
own tail rotors ! less of a problem with that 'get it done' attitude ! :)"
great job mr herbert helis have come along way nice to c someone restoring
something that was on the market when i was 7 and then could only dream, now its
reality. thumbs dave!
"As always another great video - I used to have one of those Storks
Mike Mas"
Very nicely done!
Very Well Done, Great Video.....and THANKS to Frank, We get to see a great old
bird flying.....There was No YOUTUBE when this bird was made..... Great Piloting
for sure.... NOTHING REMOTELY BORING IN THIS VIDEO...Well Done All Around
Guys....again, Thanks Frank!
Well done sir!
Pretty cool heli! Ive seen a few of these on ebay but the price and the skills
to fly it exceed what i have lol i want a scale looking looking heli but it
bothers me that everything is so small now i want a bigger size. I have a honey
bee king 2 but as much as ive tried i cant get it to fly! Great video tho man
Great story! Thanks for posting it.
R/C Heli's have sure came a long ways in the past 29 years. With all the ready
to fly stuff available today, it's makes you appreciate seeing a bird like this
fly again. I didn't see what size OS Max FS engine it had on it. I'am thinking
it had a .46 size engine on it. Tom
Wow. That really took some know how. Cutting down the blades. No beginner would
have thought of that. I would have just done it all by the instructions to the
letter and when it crashed assumed it was something i put together wrong
Very nice. It is cool when we are debugging and finally find the issue. Who
could imagine those littke cracks in the servor connector could make such
problem. Congrats. I like your videos a lot.
"Very cool helicopter... The older I get the not so old things made in the later
80s seem, lol... By the way Dave, I have to say, you're looking fit,,, it's not
always easy as time does march on... Take care! :o)
O,,,"
I have one of these dad had partially completed- along with 8 or so other
completed to NIB birds... what did ya give for the stork if I may be so nosey?
Dave Looks like you Really know what your doing & was a very Interesting & Fun
Video ! Going To send this To a friend & his Name is Dave also ! Thanks Dave &
Jeff for the Video ! Dave B.
Thanks for sharing your video with us!
My grandfather has one of these kits in the rafters in his garage. been there
since about 1985 or so.
I'm an intermediate pilot but a vintage buff. I just got my cricket hovering
after a few years of sporadic restoration activity with so many other projects.
Im happy just to hover it for now and have an operational example. I say like
you said, not going to go crazy, parts are too hard to get, though the cricket
has more aftermarket available. So, great vid, loved watching it as I have a
mint, assembled but never set up and run GMP Legend on the shelf (and an
operational running but not wrung out GMP Rebel), but that's another story...
I have a Hirobo shuttle zx. Never been flown. I bought it years ago from a
friend. I would like to see it fly but I don't know how to fly helicopters. enya
35 engine on it with gyro but no radio. I would buy one if someone would fly it.
Great job
Awesome.
Very very nice!!!
At the end the tail rotor stoped turning way before the main one !? Anyway nice
video I hope you are doing well !
Good Job... Very Good Video....
Very cool
Hello Sir how are, you? I have the same unit, but it's down, can you help me fix
it?
Oh by the way Dave I like jeffs selfie lol
Oldie but goodie!!!!!!!!!!!!!
