German tank No. 4 was originally designed as a fire support vehicle for tank
No. 3. Since tank No. 3 was designed primarily to deal with battles between
tanks, its body design was too compact and its refitting potential was limited,
so when faced with the flooding T-34 tank of the Soviet Army, the German design
authorities were forced to start with tank No. 4, which had great refitting
potential, and improve its performance to fight against the "T-34 crisis". Tank
No. 4 has been using long barrel artillery since F2. Shortly afterwards, the F2
batch was classified as the initial type of No. 4 G. This batch of No. 4 tanks
was welcomed by the frontline troops. In the winter of 1942, the armored
division composed of these No. 4 tanks went into battle against the Soviet
Union. However, the armor of tank No. 4, originally used as a fire support
vehicle, is only 50 mm thick, and its defense is weak. Therefore, in the
subsequent production process, the front armor of tank No. 4 increased from 50
mm to 80 mm, and the additional 30 mm was welded (riveted) on the body as
additional armor. Improvements to the No. 4 G model continued. In the spring of
1943, the German army replaced the original 43-fold gun with a more powerful
48-fold-diameter 75-mm gun. In addition, in view of the extensive use of
anti-tank rifles and Bazuka rockets during this period, No. 4 G also installed
additional armor (skirts) on the side of the body and around the turret. In the
Kursk Battle, the late type of No. 4 G participated in the battle as the main
force.
All along, the theme of German No. 4 tank in World War II is quite popular, and
its popularity is no less than that of the famous Tiger tank. In the field of
1/35 scale model, the so-called "decisive version" has always occupied the
position of a series of No. 4 tanks launched by Weilong, especially the SK
models launched later, which have reached a new height in textual research,
model opening, details and combination. For a long time, no manufacturer dared
to poke tiger whiskers on the theme of No. 4 tank. However, as the saying goes,
"Newborn calves are not afraid of tigers." Border model predicted the mid-and
late-stage of the tank G last summer, and claimed that it would surpass Veyron's
suite, which is undoubtedly like throwing a boulder into a calm lake. This stalk
once became a hot topic in the model circle, even let the model friends play
badly.
