Online social commentary (media commentary):

Bill Evans made some pretty neat Nitro Powered flying wings back in the day and I've had many of them. My favorites are the Astron 40 X Wing and the Simitar 540. Mine is one of the last Fiberglas fuselage Simitar 540's that he offered. Those fuselages are now extinct and very rare. Plans and wing cores are still available at the address below. Enjoy the sights and sounds as I recap some of the History and how I got involved with Bill Evans back in the '70s. I am flying this in his honor and to my Dad who recently passed. Dad attended the Multiwing contest with me a few times. Also I tribute Hal Wickman who was a good friend and also recently passed. We built two Simitars together. His survived and I will fly it in this video for him and my Dad.

Best regards. Thanks for watching, and subscribing.

beauty! thanks for the history! looks like a blast!
fantastic job Dave, looks and sounds great, flies even greater, keep it up and fly hard !
Great video Dave, I enjoy the history along with the planes, keep flying :0)
another fantastic video, i just love these style of videos from dave
WOW, that thing really scoots with the os.46, another great video and flight.~Bob
Great resurrecting and flying that piece of history, Dave! Same with me, RC flying sort of keeps me sane. Don't stop building, tinkering, flying and making these awesome "how- to" and "I see" informative videos with midi music (lol, part of the charm). Best regards from California.
thats so sweet, i would love to get my hands on one of those.
wow mr. herbert, amazing video. really cool airplane designs and flying, and as always i learned alot, Thanks and great video!
There is nothing like the sound and speed of a nitro engine!!
wow, amazing bi-plane u built!!!
A great flying Legend. Never had one, but I can see I missed something. Leave it up to you, you will have a electric foam version soon. Tom
Nice to see the Bill Evans planes again. I came across a Simitar article and had to build one. I had a great conversation with him and he sent me a couple cores. I only had a 4 channel radio so I had to build a mixer myself. I even built his largest one and made it into a bomber. My favorite was the .40 sized plane. My club was amazed how well it flew in both no wind and VERY high wind. I still have the wing from that one. Someday I'll make an electric. Great trip down memory lane! Thank you!
What a great fligth Mr. that thing penetrates the air so well, really nice, thanks for sharing!Have a nice day!
I love my OS .46ax, my dad gave it to me when I first started and its been through 3 crashes and still keeps on going! Now its in my Phoenix Model Scanner and I've flown the crap out of it in the last year, and now its really starting to lose compression. Be a sad day when I retire it. :(
very cool its nice to see the after so many years you still have alot of passion for what you love to do ,i think the is the key to live if you find what you love to do you will do it forever
I love your vids. What prop were you using on that .46? Thanks!
Can I get hold of the plan for the x wing? that would be an awesome plane to turn up to the field with!
Dave if I were younger I would love to have you as my Crazy Uncle! Blue Skies to you! You are an inspiration to many.
i have one simple question that's been killing me " It is hard to control those kinda planes, or more generally. overall ?
Great vid, Dave!!! ...great story to go along with it, too! Semper Fi
"It was men like this that pushed the boundry of modeling.
What flyes as a model plane my not fly as a real aircraft ,that's what is so great about the modeling hobby."
Awesome Dave :-)
WOW Dave, Nice video. Where is the build video? But really if you do another one of these great designs by Bill could you give some of us newer come latelies a look at how you build and modify these birds? Love your vids. See you in the air.
"Excellent? video!!!
greetings from Greece."
You have such an interesting life! I wish history at school was like your videos.
God, I wish you were my dad. You seem like a really great guy.
that's great!
"Met Bill over at his house in the Valley, Socal, LA, area, and what a real nice guy.
Myself and a couple of other club members where called NUTSO'S. as we were
flying the fastest planes around for the time. With the exception of the pulse jets.
Still have the Desperato 40 and Desperato 3000. With anhedral wings, ahead of
Star Wars for the time.... HA......Tnx for the memories Dave..........."
@NightFlyyer When I click on the link for the x wing on the rcm website (#781) it links me to the pole star plan(#1088), do they share the plans or something? unfortunately I live in the UK and I don't think ordering a kit from the US would be cheap :s getting a plan should be cheap enough and my dad made a hot wire cutter so I may just give it a go!
I was saddened to hear about the death of your friend and your dad. My condolences to you and your family.
wow nice its so fast
Very nice
now all you need are the lights!!!!!
NOOOOO Don't make an electric one now. Stay true to the past!
@sonicrb69 - Yeah I know. But you don't take a nice antique radio and add an a digital dial to it. Ya know what I'm saying?
cool!
@sonicrb69 Just because you can do something doesn't neccessarily mean that you should
You look a lot older than 10 years old in that photo. Good old time photo shot with the smoke in the mouth.
@UtRadioGuy ****As Dave says "Technology moves forward not backward"****1:19
"Just had to say you worked for Kraft radio....
Well Orbit black boxes was mine, and later Kraft bricks in gliders...
That will getcha....HA!...."
