TOP BEST RC Helicopters

Online social commentary (media commentary):

I installed new rotor heads. The top head is connected to an inner shaft.

These upgrades will not increase performance, however by moving the push rods out one hole on the servo arm really made a more maneuverable machine.

These are genuine E-Flite upgrade parts and will probably never break in a crash.

Note: Make sure you have a package of extra blades, when learning, because the tips are brittle.

Very informative. I was playing around with mine when I noticed the controls were in the first holes. It was very hard to get any forward and back movement. I moved the controls to the 3rd set of holes and now it can zip around quite fast.
"Thanks for making the videos, they are very informative. A couple questions on this one: You adjusted the servo to be perpendicular when it's centered. Was that just a matter of removing and repositioning the servo arm?
What's the procedure for adjusting the blade tracking (where whiteout was used), if necessary?
Thanks again and keep up the good work!"
Thanks for dropping by to watch my video Dave. You have a wealth of knowledge in this area, and I look forward to watching all your videos! My very first heli was the Blade CX2, and had a lot of fun with it, I just jumped into purchasing the Blade 3D 400, and I'm taking the slow approach to flying it! Cheers.....mike
"Sweet show ! Thanks for the upgrad info. I see some video of people flying the Blade cx2 in some moderate wind. They said they moved the ""servo"" to the ""third hole"". Can you tell me if that helps outdoors? How will it change the ""feel""? And...if you're not too busy...how is it done?

Thanks for your videos !"
"I had all the aluminum up grades on my cx2 including aluminum battery tray, stabilazer bar and weights, after market motors, carbon fiber tailboom safety oneway diode for the
the 4in1 then I went with the xtreme core and blades set up xtreme canopy and landing skid and I'm very happy with it! I still fly it whenever I can(though not often enough) LOL mr.Herbert you are awesome and seems alot of fun to be with! thank you for posting."
Another great video. Did you notice any flight performance improvements with the metal parts? I've been reluctant to purchase them because it seems to me like they would not improve anything.
"Thanks for the great video tutorial. After removing the 2 screws holding the inner shaft I can't seem to pull it off. How can I get it out? I'm pulling pretty hard but I only got it a little ways out. Is something stuck in there? If so - how do I fix it?

I pulled a couple of hard turns and the lower part that holds the blades onto the shaft broke and my CX2 fell like a stone :("
awesome video. I'm new to the hobby. I have the blade cx2 and when i try 2 take off it move in directions by it self. how do i make mine hover pirfectly like yours? thank u for your time. keep on flying.
Thanks for this video. I flew mine about 4 times before the cheap plastic blade holder broke. Now it's time to get a new metal part that they should have used in the first place. Over all I'm happy with the purchase.
Hello Dave, hope you and the clan are well. I have been given a E-Flite cx3. I replaced the damaged props but can't get it trimmed. It wants to fly forward and doesn't answer to any backward input. As alway I am still enjoying your handy. Any advice would be greatly received. Cheers Stuart
"Hey thanks for the tips !

Can you tell me the best way to get the push rods ""out"" in order to move to the next hole? Do you push the ""ball"" out from the ""circle"" or should I unscrew the servo and move it that way?

Thanks again"
that is soo stable! its really really ideal for begginers. i have a lama v4 and i am a begginer.. i crashed many many times, and bent the lower shaft. i cant take the shaft off coz the screw is glued to the retaining collar. is it the same as the BCX2? is it glued?
This guy knows what he is doing. Landing it on the same (SMALL) spot is not as easy as you might think. He did a great job explaining the upgrade and that's why you clicked on the link!
"I upgraded the lower head with the new alum. When I slid the new lower head on, I got some resistance near the bottom and had to force it into place.
I got it all back together and it flys just as good if not better than before. However, I have about 2mm of ""play"" in the upper shaft. When I pick up heli by top prop, the prop and shaft comes up about 2mm. This can be seen at the bottom also. It will ""pickup"" the ""big"" gear about 2mm. Is this normal? Thanks"
Cool, I have this one. By the way, as of 2010 the Blade CX2 comes with the aluminum shaft installed.
great vid! I have just broken my new cx2 and the upper blades plus the cap onto which you put the flybar weight broke too. is it hard to repair it? I will probably invest into the aluminum upper cap. thanks.
Hi Dave, I see that you have flown both the e-flight blade cx2 and the Esky hunter. Which one would you reccomend to learn on and which is the better value, price vs. quality? I was told that their parts are interchangable, is this true????
Thanks for the advice. It is hard to put it down after starting to get it "hopping" up to hover. I mean hard to stop flying it, but I'll set a timer. I did put on new motors as a check, but -- please laugh long and hard at or with me -- I had put an upper blade set on the lower blade holder!! So, they were turning backwards and fighting the upper. Funny how you can look straight at a problem for hours and not see it until that one quiet moment of clarity.
"Hey you are really talented at flying the heli

I have a blade cx2 and i wanted to make it more manuverable by changing the position of the push rod but I have one question. once I change the position do I have to make it longer or shorter or change anything else? And should I do it to both servos or just the servo that makes it tilt forward and backward?
If you get a chance please reply
thank you for your time"
Thank you so much if I want to do it to my CX I can look at this first!
Hello Dave. Can you suggest any site from where I can purchase the upper and lower rotors for my cx2? I've searched a lot with no luck.
I upgraded to all alum. My heli is smoother and I havent broken a tab or ball in over a month and many outdoor flights.
Very helpful. Thanks!
I just got my blade cx2 and it had a problem. I have flown it for 2 days, about 5 times. It started ok, it just needed a little trim adjustment to the back and right. Then it worsened. The problem is described in the previous post
i love my cx2 i think its a great beginner heli....it was mine
the newer versions of the cx-2 have the aluminum heads already installed. also, is the battery a 2 cell 7/4 volt 800mah battery pack? i have two of these from a roken helicopter that i plan to use in the cx-2, but the cx-2's battery looks linger. is that fine?
"Hey thanks again,

It worked. I'm all tightend up and flying. Can you tell me why I had to ""force"" the new lower head down into position? is this normal. I'm worried about future repairs if I have to get that head off and back on again."
hello again dave, im still getting the cx2 and belevie it or not, was going to get the alum. upgrades... i was looking for a video on how to install them, dun dun dun dun! dave to the rescue! thanks again dave keep up the good work!
"oh okay
I just did both and its a huge difference thanks alot!"
"I'm far from an expert and I'm sure Dave will chime in but:
How high are you off the ground when the yaw happens? Mine always spins left until I get it about chest high."
I installed both rotor heads and it worked fine, then I crashed and the upper rotor head seems to make some vibration but when I took it into parts nothing seemed to be wrong except that the wheel that makes it spin is a bit bent, is it possible that that makes the vibration?
sure wish they had a brushless and battery upgrade on these, more power and flight time would be nice.
cool i really like the info on the servo
I got one of these for free the other day. It needed a lot of work. I still can't get it to fly nearly as stabile as my MCX-2... but it was free so I didn't lose anything.
That hover is unbelievable. Do you ever have trouble with fishbowling? If so, what kind of remedies are there?
"Oh well...I loosened bottom gear...took out inner shaft...looked at it...and put it back in. Tightend gear screws on the bottom...now I'm flying perfectly...

Any ideas what was causing the problem?

Thanks Mr. Dave for all your vids."
it seems to be fine until i get out of ground affect and it drifts to the left. My trims in my box thing is all the way clockwise and my tx all the way to the right and still drifts slowly to the left when its eye level.
Is there a video of you installing a tailboom? I need some help
I, i'm a beginner in RC flight. I've just bought a Blade CX3. I have the same aluminium upgrade, and mine does not flight as well as in the video. I think i have to pratice more......What do you think about the CX3? Do you project a video about the CX3. It would be great....and can you send me your ``9 heli tips``.....I can't find it.....Thanks for your good work.
He is right! Easy and hard are fun! AS LONG AS IT FLYS!!!!!
They didn't decrease flight time on mine and I have them. These parts are better as they don't break like the plastic ones do (I sheared the pins off my lower hub in its first crash). BTW, the aluminum upper hub is now standard equipment in new Blade CX2s shipping from Eflite. Only minor gripe is that while the upper head doesn't break, the inner shaft can get bent easier in a crash. But new inner shafts cost less to replace then the old plastic head and shaft assembly.
"OK, so there is a hole in the outter shaft on this model -- does the Aluminum part that goes on the outter shaft need to line upwith that hold for it's set screw? If not, how do you know how far down that part needs to be set?

Also, my CX2 no longer gets airborne. One think I noticed is the ESC light goes red after pushing the throttle ALMOST all the way up -- about 7/8-ths up. Does that mean the ESC is cutting off throttle power at that point?

Thanks for any information and nice flight!!"
hay dave, can you make a video on how to put an aluminum swashplate on?
I've installed basically the same parts as you but it doesn't seem like my CX2 wants to fly forward at all is there an adjustment to be made?
How do you raise the blade?
I noticed at 3:54 the round disk that the servos move to make the lower rotor change pitch to move the helicopter in flight is even with the bottom of the motor. Mine is slightly angled down in front and angled down on the left side (looking from the front). This is causing the heli to want to move forward and left even though I have the trim all the way to the back and right but it still doesn't help. During flight I have to hold the right stick back and right to hover. How would i fix this?
I have bought a Blade cx2 and need to change the outer shaft main gear.Does it just pull off the shaft and the new one push back on? I found the video helpful thanks
Yes and if u buy/get lama v4 somewhere can you post a video so i can see how to install those parts.
To bad i cant find hardly any parts for my old birds anymore. ...i see alot still for this one tho...but my cp pros are as rare as hens teeth
i have an esky co comanche, one prob i have, is that sometimes the flybar comes off in mid flight
"What batterie do you use?
Thanks"
if you are thinking about getting the CX2, the new one should come with the aluminum head and inner shaft installed all ready, mine did, and if you have the money, buy the landing kit, set of ping pong balls on rods, keeps it from falling over and blowing the blades. did crash my CX2,killed the landing skids, 5$(cdn) laterit was fixed, the point, if you have the money, get the CX2 and the mcx and just get the bind n fly version of the mcx, uses cx2 controller so save you money, start with MCX 1st
@ yozitaki. Its called binding the reciever to the remote. Look up how too bind your heli.
Is the udi u12 a good heli to buy? If not which is?
I got the same parts right after i crashed mine. Im sill learning to fly.
I have an e-Sky blade CX2 2.4 ghz then I have a working LP5DSM 5 CHANNEL 2.4 ghz by E-Flite radio . my question with the Heli Bind with this[ non Esky radio ] or do you have to use the same manufacturer radio to the heli ?
but wait... I got the one set screw in the top part of the lower rotor head secured in the hold in the shaft. Funnily enough, I only have one set screw ( the Engrish manual I got from the upgrade place said use four set screws to secure the lower rotor head set. However, It doesn't seem to need more than one. There are two parts to that lower rotor head set. the lower of the two lower head set rotor parts slides into the upper part firmly, It does not need the set screws I can't find anywhere!!
"I'm ok on the TX...however, my problem seems to crop up...then I take shaft out...replace...fly 2 or 3 mins...then slow top rotor...spin...land...

I now see that I have a chipped tooth on the ""top"" gear or the gear that spins the lower blade...There is friction and a slight jam at that notch...could this be interfering with my ""top blade"" somehow?"
alright dave, VERY obvious question here.. but id rather be safe than sorry.. do i love the stick on the servo-arm out a hole on both sides?
what do you mean by tracking the upper blades? I tried reading my manual but I don't understand.
Arghhh...Today my blade seems to be getting "slow" spin on top blade. Heli will spin left before takeoff. Throttle up does not allow take off. Heli tips over. Was working fine after low head replace but not now. No crashes...just started acting up between flights. any advice?
hmm i havent got my hands on one of those BCX2 but i think it has more quality plastic parts than the lama. im planning on getting one in the future when my lama v4 gets totally wrecked LOL.
thanx for the advice. ill try it.
i found aluminum parts for lama v4,or v3 i just ordered those parts so i need some information about how to install those parts.
i just got the blade cx2 and it tends to yaw to the left no matter how much i trim it on the both the tx and the unit box thing. any ideas?
can you make a video about upgradeing a rc dauphin, esky ?
i put the metal upgrades on my lama v4 but its all so tight how can i fix it? also after having the full metal upgrade when i start it up it rolls to the right n crashes seems the fly bar is also sorta stuck. any ideas? thanks
"i had alot of repair time with my heli-max cx. i had to learn to repair that lil inner shaft .. i think i spent 50 bucks the first 2 weeks... on just the inner shaft...... i finally sold it to a buddy of mine for 50 bucks ... hes been harassing his cat with it and his wife.... me i just harrased my moms cat.. and hit myself in the eye with it .. lol

chris"
I am now good in blade cx2,which heli i have 2 fly next ?please advice me is the walkera 4 3b good for me for the next step after blace cx2 ? please advice me
i have a question i have the mcx and i would like to know how good a it i should be to advanced into a little harde of a helicopter and what would be a little harder one like the mini spark with the one blade true 4 channel helicopter or something else but i would like to get a little more advaned because in my standerds i can fly it somewhere betwean o.k and goodish but i dont crash vary often and i can land in a maby 7x7 space and can trim it to where it hovers on its owne(bad spelling)thanks
I am looking to buy a cx2 it's any good for a beginner helicopter pilot
"Well i got lama v4 but i got plastic parts but i
will order aluminum parts soon."
i can always correct it with my left stick but i just dont think its normal.
well i tried it again and its seated right and all, but the ball links are tight on the metal parts and the fly bar is also tight under the little cap, i dunno how i can fix that.
nightflyyer you have so many rc planes and helis how do you fly them all?
dave,i tell you the results when i get aluminum parts.
ahh thought so, thanks dave :D
Thanks...So it is the screw! Now ...to enlarge the hole in the servo...use a small knife...saw ??
yes, the gear, you see I am slovak and I just didnt know how its called.
i wish i could fly mine =[. i got my cx2 about 2 years ago and all the blades are spit from my crashes. Also the cogs are worn down so only the top blade spins. =[.
"Hello Again.
not knowing better id say it as three channels yes ?
one for the esc and two for the cyclic (or swash) im wondering how you turn is with no tailrotor because it seems to turn quite fast !
Anyways good vid's. Thumbs up."
does this work on lama v4? sry for my bad english.
hey just to let you know that those "upgrades" are accully "downgrades" those reduce performance and flight time I know this because I went to a website that lists bad things for your heli if I where u I would takes those off!
my upper rotor head wont come out
lama v4 is a better helicopter
12dart12, sounds like u need to get to a hobby store. I know it kinda sucks but replacing parts is part of the hobby. :)
i dont see you fly this anymore
ok, thanks.
Shit I thought that was Charles Bronson there for a minute.
ok ty very much.
they r crap i had one never crashed it we had replaced the electronics and it still does not work
Need you help
