It all started back in 2006 when Belgian engineer Alexander van de Rostyne built the pixelito, which was produced by silverlit as the picoo z, the picoo z was also recognized by Guinness book of world records as the world's smallest rc helicopter. The picoo z was released in America and Canada by spin master and air hogs as the havoc heli For a lot of people it was their first introduction to rc helicopters, and it was a sensation. Over the next few years silverlit airhogs and spinmaster released a few versions of the havoc heli From infra red battling version to the tandem Chinook. Most of these aircraft only had 2 or 3 channels of control. Now with the release of the helix 360 there is finally a fully functional 4 channel havoc heli on the market. First for those of you who don't know what 4 channels of control means Basically the pilot can make the helicopter fly up and down drift left and right spin left and right and move forwards and backwards. Up until now all havoc helis have either been 2 or 3 channel aircraft, missing either the ability to control forward and reverse motion or side to side roll. Now with the helix 360 you can hover you havoc heli in place, fly backwards make precision landings and fly in and out of tight spots. The amount of control that the 4th channel offers is priceless, finally you can get your heli to do what you want instead of just trying to keep it in the air.

Great video. Thanks for the review. I just saw this in the store and had to research it. While I was there I bought the sharp shooter. It is a great 2 channel. Far better than the Havoc's. I also have a Blade MCX. Really nice flier, but I find the batteries far to easy to kill. With the Air Hogs heli's I can fly till they drop and no harm to the batteries. With the Blade MCX If I go to the point of seeing as slight power drop, I have screwed the batteries. What is the difference between the two?
This is still an amazing aircraft and it isn't outdated yet. their are a few newer versions of it from silverlit. This is still one of my favorite helis for training new pilots.
@SecretSword i love the MSR, it's from a well known company who has a good reputation for making amazing aircraft, it's small size is great for indoors, but it's fast enough for outdoor flights, it's very well designed and very stable. when your ready to move up to a single rotor it's definitely the way to go.
@taoistflyer: Thank you for the excellent review. Have you encountered any main-rotor steering problems with the Helix 360, and if so, have you found a good permanent fix? Long story short, I opened the heli to figure out why it was unsteerable and discovered that one of the steering pins had gotten caught under the collar at the rotor base. It needs longer steering pins to prevent the collar from hopping up onto them, but maybe there's a different fix?
"@magiceddie88 It has an amazing battery,
I left mine sitting for over a month with a full charge, i picked it up turned it on and it flew for 7 minutes, then it fully charged in the standard 20-25 minutes.
out of all the airhogs aircraft, this one has the best battery, it charges quicker, lasts longer, and performs great.
store the batteries charged however,
when storing lithium batteries for more then a month it is recommended to drain them down half way, but NEVER drain them down all the way."
"@Mrblaze0505 it would be very hard to break something with this little helicopter. the rotors are not very fast and it is almost weightless. you're more likely to break the helicopter before you would break a lamp or light.

The helicopter is very durable and great for indoor environments."
@TheRemedyCA I would recommend practicing your hover very close to the ground. Anything goes wrong cut the throttle and no harm done. Try and practice this a lot and before you try anything else make sure the heli is always facing away from you that way you wont get confused with inverse controls(which are very difficult). The better and closer to the ground you hover the less damage you do
Honestly this one has an amazing charger, you will get 20 flights out of a set of rechargeable batteries. their are other helis for the same price with replaceable batteries, but you'll need to go to your LHS or buy one online.
"@SecretSword It's got you good, you sound like your going to have some serious flight time ahead of you, it'll be nice to have multiple helis to compare flight performance, and the 4 port charger and large set of batteries should keep you pretty much in the air until your ready to land. the MSR is great for some real flight, but sometimes the knockoffs are a lot of fun to conquer, they have their limitations, but they have their strong points as well.
keep flying and I'll see you in the air."
hey taoistflyer thanks for all the great reviews, me and my family really enjoy your reviews
"@archedperson I have one and it has some really nice points, but don't push it to hard, it has a problem with the fly bar hitting the tail boom if you turn or bank to quickly.
I like the battery, I've used it in a number of other applications like powering my hex bug spider or testing polarity on micro magnetic servos."
Great review. Looks like a great little heli for beginners and experienced who just want to play around the house.
"2.5 or 3.5 usually means that one of the directions of motion is limited. for example a 2.5 ch picoo z uses buttons to control forward flight instead of the transmitter stick, and it doesn't go in reverse. 4.5 channel usually just means it's a 4 channel helicopter with a light that you can turn on and off.
half a channel isn't an official term, but it gets used a lot as a sales tactic."
"I just got one of these, and WOW they have quite a bit of tech in them... They basically use voice coils to pull on the swash plate in the 4 directions. The gryo is pretty good too for such a small craft.

The one thing i like about it is that it looks nothing like the semi-goofy looking coaxials. It operates nearly the same way that a real helicopter does (minus the collective) and is definitely a great heli to learn on before you go to the larger hobby-size versions."
I love the fact that the air hogs are IR controlled. I live next to a 6 MW radar. IR you dont have to deal with interferance.
Great review love your reviews very helpful.
Taoistflyer, I'm so jealous of your flying skill. How long have you been flying? You seem to have more fun with the toy quality helis than the more expensive ones, although I see you have those too. Bravo man, bravo!
"@jeffdrouin I never had that problem, but it sounds like you really know what your doing, figuring out whats wrong is sometimes the hardest part.
the person i would ask is EQMOD, he basically invented this type of swash plate, he makes youtube videos about his advancements all the time, he is really brilliant, if anyone has a solution to your problem he does."
@taoistflyer I have to say they treated me very well and sent me out 3 batteries without even asking me to return my toasted ones. I tried to follow their advice on the first of the new 3. As soon as I noticed the slightest drop in power, I landed and recharged. That battery was screwed from that point on. So now , for over a year, the MCX just sits on the shelf, two brand new never used batteries with it, not flying. I think I may get it out again, and use a timer. Set it for 5 minutes.
"I have one of these and have a few comments...

I've found it best to give it some juice to get it off the ground quickly, then back off on the throttle. Slow takeoffs are just not possible - it'll keep skidding across the floor until it crashes.

It seems to move around at first once in the air, then I presume some internal gyros will stabilize it. If you fight this initial stage by using the controls it never seems to find it's balance."
@ReddmanDGZ thanks for the tech specs, i hadn't opened mine up yet to figure out what the actuators wear and i have been curious. I do like how this thing looks in the air, i fly mine pretty regularly.
@threeque mine never flew more then 8 minutes before the battery was to low to fly, but i never had troubles with the battery dying, usually anything from e-flight is top notch, they have some of the best aircraft and electronics around, they are a good company and pretty good about support.
thats a great review, nice job, but i think that i would still prefer a blade heli over this even though they cost more.
@taoistflyer Yea, as far as I can tell, it uses far fewer moving parts than a standard 4 channel that has linkages and servos. Less parts to wear out likely translates to this aircraft lasting a good long time.
I got a 4 channel 2.4 ghz heli that is the same size, fixed pitch, and is stable and can fly super fast even in wind! $30 instead of $80. You should do a review on it, it's called the Xieda 9958 by Great Wall. It's awesome!
That is one of the best flying micro heli i have seen 10/10 {"_*}
"@dittsboylogan I'm going to have to check that out, air hogs has made some pretty cool and sturdy outdoor aircraft.

For years with outdoor aircraft one crash was the end of it, but airhogs aircraft are designed to survive lots of hard crashes."
@tamame30 I got this one last year, and they wear selling for about 70 bucks then, it's a great heli and it's really easy to fly, but it's also very capable.
"Being you've had this for a while, does the rechargeable battery in the helicopter kill out after some time that's one issue I have found in flying and enjoying airhogs. The battery after about three months loses the ability to hold a charge.

Thanks looks like great fun! Good review, how's it do outside?"
"@threeque the air hogs helis usually have a low voltage cut off, so when the power drops they will land themselves and turn off.
the mcx isn't as good at letting you know it's time to land, it will let you drain the battery much further before the cutoff happens."
"Yo,
Loving your videos as I'm new to this and looking at getting one.
You say 'it is infra-red controlled unfortunately' as though that was a bad thing, then give all the benefits of IR, so why is it bad aren't they all IR controlled?
So the Avatar updated version for ?19 or the SYMA 107G 2nd edition for ?22 which would you advise for 1st heli? How come the 4CH avatar only costs ?19 yet other mini helis cost up to ?100!
Can't seem to get the Air Hog Helix 360 in UK/Ireland?
Cheers
Ciaran"
they should make a 4-channel heli mixed with the sharpshooter!! that would be sick!!!!
"@braddock001 Thank you very much, I try to make it as enjoyable to watch as a I can.
I looked at your channel and I have to say WOW I am very impressed, you are a very skilled individual, and i absolutely LOVE your collection, you have really good taste and a lot of talent.
I subscribed and would love to stay in touch, i would love to work with you on a project in the future.
my first love was always special effects creatures and robots."
@buddy1065 thanks for watching, it is a great introduction into rc helicopters, airhogs and silverlit did a great job with it.
@paddystaxi I haven't tried the solo 2 yet, but I'm getting a protomax soon, i'm hoping for some more aggressive ff flight. i still haven't pulled off the flybar on my helix, but i guess with this heli the rotor really relies on it heavily, i guess the centrificl force isn't as much with this rotor as with rotors with more weight at the ends or hinged rotors.
Hi there, your vids are great, i really like the way you talk. I just started playing with those heli toys and they are amazing, i got 2 channels heli, but want to have more precision and control. Is this model still good now or totally outdated, is it better than the avatar serie from silverlit when it come to precision and speed?
@drumaddict247 flight time is about 8 or 10 minutes of solid flight. charge time is about 30 minutes, and it only uses 4 batteries in the TX instead of 6. it's the top notch air hogs heli.
I like the tail rotor design with hex snap on. It last long for crashes with out having to change it out. And they do give you 2 extra rotor from. Target when i bought mine. It better than my blade sr120 since one or two crashes to learn how to fly the tail rotor wound spin and wear out so quickly it just fly off. This hog helicopter is a good start for me and it was easy to fly for a 4 channel. It the best i seen out so far. Very steady. Love your video.
"awsome sound quality while filming and informitive.
Thanks for the vid!"
@superhotdog1689 I usually have to spin my trim really far to make a difference in the spin, for anything else like forward reverse you need to weight the heli on one side to change the center of gravity.
Bought mine at Radio Shack...it's fun. I fly the big Raptor 90's and can honestly say, for just $79.99..I like it. : )
"@lame3x I usually use electrical tape instead of clay. I cut out little triangles of tape and stack them up on the tail fin one at a time until it hovers in mid air, it takes maybe 5 or 10 of them.
When I used clay it was a ball the size of a large pea but it didn't stay on well and it can pull off the paint because some clay reacts with paint and polishes on furniture. Some clay can actually melt foam and plastic as well as finished surfaces."
"@pcelf thank you

I've been flying for about 4 years now, and i love micro rc aircraft, but i also love to fly 3D, but it's always been a little pricey so i don't get to do it as much as I would like."
ya I got me 2 air hogs 3 and 4 ch. the 3 ch. I had more fly time with it but the 4 ch. I get a little fly shy and mostly I just crash it. but after watching your how to vid I know now to just use the left stick until I get the hang of the second control. Thanks R.C. 101!
how long is flight time and how long does it take to charge
"@sparky0308 you would need to make your own charging cable since the helix uses the airhogs 2 way charging plug, but it would probably work.
Personally i use rechargeable batteries in my transmitter, i get a full charge in about 25 minutes, about 8 or 10 minutes of flight, and about 13 or 15 charges per set of batteries."
"IR receivers are very small lightweight low power inexpensive devices compared to radio receivers. They're an obvious choice for low cost helis.IR toys may not be as strictly regulated by the FCC as radio controlled devices so thats another possible reason... However IR receivers have extremely limited range, sunlight and other bright lights blind them and they are easily inter feared with.
Radio waves have long ranges, they can penetrate obstacles and 2.4 GHz radios don't get much interference."
"@2applecider yes, a split tail will cause problems.
inside the helicopter package their is a spare tail.
replace the tail and it will help."
"@sobeclubber This helicopter does take a little more practice to get the hang of, when you first lift off from the ground it is going to always want to drift right, all single rotor helicopters do, you need to learn to compensate for it.
You may actually have an easier time hand launching it, i know it sounds strange, but with a hand launch the rotor is already up to speed, and you don't need to fight ground effect.
also google RADDS school of rotatory flight it's a helpful site."
@mrtboy1999 I think it is worth the money, it is pricey but it is 4 channels, and i've been flying mine every day and loving it.
I think that is just fantastic thanks!!
Their should be an A, B, switch on the remote that changes bands
"@flyboyjuelz they have a lot of outdoor aircraft products so it wouldn't surprise me, but outdoor helicopters are much different then indoor ones, they have to be able to fight wind, so they have to be powerful and fast enough to fly 15 or more miles per hour to fight light winds, and fast helicopters are hard to control for new pilots. they can get away from you pretty quick.
they do have the osprey full tilt airplane/heli that is an outdoor aircraft."
@paddystaxi it should be very easy to pull off, their is one metal pin holding it on and the 2 plastic links, all of them can be pulled off without causing damage, I'm not sure how stable it will be but you've got me thinking about it, I'm going to have to try it now.
I hope so, I'm begining to think Air Hogs has some kind of deal with the battery industry.
impressive heli from air hogs. I am enjoying the sharpshooter now but would like to get this so I can practice on a lower scale heli to improve my control on my belt cpv2 which I always seem to crash.
@BoY860 the 4th channel is usually roll but not every heli calls it that, i usually try to look for some mechanism that will actually control roll yaw and forward reverse like a swash plate or fans, you can usually tell by looking at pictures close enough.
That's the first time I've ever heard anyone say their glad it's IR but that's definitely a good reason.
@Kman1595 only at night, during the day the sun would block the IR signal. However if you live somewhere that has a lot of snow fall you might be able to fly it on an overcast day because the snow helps reflect the IR signal to the receiver just like your walls in the house do.
@modernart86 you should definitely get it exchanged, air hogs is usually reall good about replacing defective aircraft.
I just got mine in today and wanted to ask if you know of a mod that allows for USB charging or wall socket like the the Helix I belive, the one with the two fans on the sides, it had a wall charger and I loved it. Charging from the controller goes through tons of AA batts and takes so much longer then USB and 120v. Some of my other micros that did not come with USB chrgers I just used the cable from another and it worked fine but with this one I don't have the luxury of replacing the batt if...
"@VAND4LL it can handle the air conditioning pretty well but that's about it, i doubt it could fight more then 2 mile per hour minds.
If you want to fly outside it's 2.4ghz or nothing, this is a heli for the bedroom, it's not one to take to the gym and fly, it's something you fly in bed on a Saturday afternoon.
it is their first 4 channel heli, I expect that they will also come out with a 2.4GHz version in the future."
@knexfun I'll definitely check it out if I have a chance, the prices are coming way down.
Has anyone seen the silverlit sky dagger. It's essentially the same but 2.4ghz. I can't find any reviews of it. I just got one and having come from a walkera 5g6 I gotta say I love it. Not tried it outdoors yet? but indoors its great. Saving for a msr x now.
"damn it...
here i thought there would finally be a 4 channel helicopter thats cheap... -.-
still around 60 bucks... -.-"
"which would you recommend?
The Helix 360 or the Sharp Shooter?"
@SecretSword i ended up using about 5-10 pieces of electrical tape stack up and cut out in the shape of the tail, it didn't fall off as easy and it wont affect the paint.
@Gabrielwinning unfortunately it is IR controlled, so it wont want to fly outside, the sunlight will blind the IR receiver and their would need to be no wind at all.
For the money and what you get would you recommend this or the Z-series Z008?
@archedperson I've seen a lot of 40 dollar 4 channel helicopters recently. mostly coaxial but a lot of single rotors as well. and most with no name brand.
@NiggaPlease2222 it takes a lot of control to make it drift left right or to go in reverse, air hogs suggest not just pushing in the direction you want to go but also rocking back and forth, so to go backwards you push reverse and rock the stick left and right, it's not quit like flying an MSR that's full out balls to the walls fast, but at the same time as stable as a rock.
the best time to probably fly an ir chopper is at night when the sun goes down and just carry a flashlight with you
does it have proportional controll??
"@sparky0308 You probably could, but new airhogs helis usue a different plug then most micro helis, it is a multi directional plug so you would have to make the plug or cut one from an airhogs tx and splice it with the usb charger.
out of all the airhogs helis the helix uses the least amount of batteries, it only uses 4 batteries, and gets about 15 or 20 conceutive flights.
I always use rechargable batteires in mine though so i haven't needed to buy new batteries in a few years."
@Will42591 buy the helix 360 definitely, it's more stable, flies longer, charges quicker, and is lighter and stronger.
pls answer. how many grams of clay do you put on the heli's back?
If a heli is 4ch that means it has foward, reverse, left, right, aswell as roll ? I been looking at bigger models on lower budget but 4ch i have looked at dont always say they roll from left to right
All we need now is a Miniature New York AWESOME!!!
I kind of understand why it is a IR helicopter due to the size of the craft i assuming it could not handle even the slightest wind very well and about 10 to 15 foot range would be undesirable.
"@ChaozMKW do a search for e flight airplanes.
their are a few in the 70 dollar range but most are a little more expensive, around 100 bucks, but they are the top notch micro park fliers, 2.4 Ghz ARF mostly. some are 3 channel some are 4 channel, and some can do some really nice aerobatics, most of them are sold at the major hobby retailers, and the e flight line is well supported."
Would it be helpful to people if I set up a place for trouble shooting and repairing IRC/RC copters?
@donmei it was the esky honey be CP, and it was a pain in the ass to tune it and keep it flying.
This is obviously awesome. but how long to charge and how long to fly????
"I just got this rc, and its flight is nothing like this demonstration.
No matter how much I trim, it keeps spinning. Any time I use the right joystick to tilt. It makes the heli drop 5 feet. It continuously drops the longer it runs so there is no idle hovering."
Since this is a gift for Xmas and I can't inspect it yet , do you know if it uses the same plug as the Airhog that came with an ac plug charger? The one with the 2 fans on the sides, I think I have seen one on a video of yourd?
@taoistflyer I did a search and found that this is a common problem. Some people were blaming the charger. Claiming they were being charged to fast. Who knows. I asked a few direct questions of eFlight, I never got a straight answer or an admission of a problem. They did however send out replacements for the original battery as well as the two I purchased as spares. They took me at my word that I actually bought them. I was very impressed with that. Followed their directions, still killed them
@taoistflyer Do you know if you can make a mod to charge off USB like all the 3.5 channel Heli's? I have a bunch of Airhogs and have gone with the Chinese ones for the main reason of having to buy so many AA batteries. Me and my kids will fly our Airhogs for 10-12 consecutive flights some times and it gets more pricey then the heli. I assume they are 3.7v batteries and if so should be able to charge with a modified USB cord like the Helix I think it was, the one with the two fans on the sides.
@sparky0308 it's a newer plug that they just started using, it has a square black plug. i don't know if the reflex used it, hopefully they'll come out with a universal wall charger
Wow , looks like this post got a bit off subject. I got a question for you. I tried as I have done with many of my " Little" heli's to add some weight to the nose for faster forward flight and on this Hog, it must have messed up the Gyro or something. I tried to fly it 100 times after I took the weight off and it just went crazy, and then after holding it steady in my hand about ten times out of no where it just started working right again. Have you ever seen this before? Can u make it faster?
"@taoistflyer
Thanks for the kind comments .Hope to stay in touch and help in any way that I am able.Doing a remote controle lawn mower soon. I might need some pointers with rc stuff. Private message me ..
Brad C ."
its about time but a bit pricey for an ah when you can get a solo pro for less
Also, Air Hogs sucks because for most of their aircraft they you charge through the controller, which drains your AA batteries. For the Japanese ones they give you a USB cable and you could charge through the computer.
i got this but whenever i try to fly it it never goes straight up only it glides to the right even when i try to trim it
"Their great for beginners, the rotor is very sturdy and hard to break unless you are really trying, it can't be replaced so if for some reason it did break you would need a new heli or you would need to send it to airhogs for repairs.
That being said, if you lower the throttle during a crash you should never break the rotors. They are made to take punishment. this helicopter has a true 4 channel control system and a great battery, it's still one of my favorites."
@daplaneflyer no collective pitch helies can only be 6 channel. This one is a fixed pitch
I got the GYRO 4ch Mini Sky Thunderclap heli from ebay for 20$ (rip off of helix 360) but not worth it. The tail rotor stopped working caz the white plastic teeth plate crank thingy (idk what it's called) got messed up and heli started spinning...
i had one and the tail rotter stop spinning and i took it apart and put it back together and it worked sometimes and the other times it didn't
@TheNameIsCobb thank you I try, check out my light cycle video that i just posted, i've been working on it for a few weeks.
@2applecider sorry, i don't know if the reflex has a spare tail, you may need to super glue your old one back together.
i have to say that it would be epic if you could mount a lightweight mini cam on this or for airsofters like me mount a little single shot spring airsoft gun hahahahahahaha great video
