Online social commentary (media commentary):

When I broke my landing gear just before a flight demo, I had to come up with something fast to repair it because there are no hobby shops near or that even carry the parts. I used a large plastic jar lid (which I also found to be unbreakable) and made do as you see here. I also demo my orange floats to enhance visualization. There was no glue needed for the skids as they push into the lid with a snug fit, so this landing gear can be made and installed fast. The bonus of my desire to make much of my own stuff, it saves me money too.

Excellent job! I really love your ability to think outside of the box and your can-do attitude. You are a true inspiration to all rc newbies out there. :-)
That looks great Dave, sure works perfectly ! I made a cowl for my GWS Formosa couple of years ago, since the flimsy plastic stock one was so weak it was damaged after couple of fligths. The one I made even looks prety good in the air and is almost indestructible, cost me nothing but some cutting and some tape...lol Making it yourself is just so much fun and very rewarding, keep up the good work.
your ideas are always so creative and well thought out. I really enjoy all of your informative videos. Thanks :)
that actually looks really good, another great video mr. herbert, thanks!
this is just the kind of thing my dad does, although I was never really into it as I enjoyed having the actual parts, my dad would fab something up out his scrap boxes, I remember I had a heli where one of the gears stripped, and he found a gear with near enough pitch and he grafted it onto the gear of this helicopter, I am amazed at how resourceful my dad is and I am so glad to have him :) And yes now i do stuff like this :) Any excuse to make something!
Dave, your garden is looking awesome! Ohh, nice flying and modification too. I did something similar when i was learning and crashing.
i love the skids guys like me who fly on a budget can really use this. im new to helis i have learned to fly my exi 450 v2 so far i have at least 50 flights on it . i never thought i would wear out a heli befor i crashed it . but things are starting to get loose on it from flying.i am having so much fun..thank you
Hey Dave, I know you are busy but i have just one quick question. I got my third heli a few days ago, but it is my first fixed pitch helicopter. It came with a Lithium ion battery, and ive charged it right and ive tried just about everything and when i give it throttle the blades spin but it just doesent have any power, it can get off the ground but only for seconds then it loses power and slowly comes back down. Any tips?
I think you're on to something, Dave. Replacement parts in an emergency by Dave Herbert
Well we know they prouduce things to fail to keep parts department in business. Thanks for the tip.
Dave, Your enginuity came thru again. Looks good to. I will remember this if I break a landing gear strut someday. Tom
Very nice color of blue, hope you keep it that way! Is that the lid from a Skippy peanut butter jar?
"would be awesome if you posted a link to previous vids when you mention them. I have tried in the past to find a vid you mention that I haven't seen yet and have been unsuccessful in finding them.

Great vids keep em coming!!
Jon"
It works and well at that so i do hope no one knocks it because i bet this video will help out loads peole who get stuck waiting on LG,thanks for sharing Dave = thumbs up,
@NightFlyyer What do you prefer, Nitro/Gas helicopters or Eletric helicopters?
The first time I bought a helicopter the salesman said I should start with a cheap training model. I said NO. Salesman said your going to take it home, take it out of the box, turn it on and break it--------It was the wildest 8 secs of pure terror in my livingroom . Hate it when people read me that easy!
You almost wouldn't know that the replacement structures aren't OEM.... :)!
where did the lid come from help please??
Cool, another Phoenix RC user in the mix. :-)
Do you still have that big jet ranger?
