When I was growing up I went to the rink in Spencer every weekend until they closed it 8-9 years ago. I've since taken up ice skating as a hobby and we actually have an indoor rink in Spirit Lake! Have you ever considered ice skating as another hobby?

A man after my own heart. I started skating at the local Junior high,back then,the gym floor doubled as a skating rink. Then I found a skating rink in North Muskegon that I was able to convince my family to start going. We went on Sunday nights,every sunday night. I moved to Traversecity Mi that had a decent Rink. Sadly they closed it and turned it into a bar. I went for the first time in 25 years last spring. After I quit fighting with the mind over matter,I did pretty good. Nothing like I did back in the old days. I was a dance skater and instructed. I also worked at that rink as a floor guard and skate rental person. I had custom skates with custom Boots and jump bars. My Skates were very costly back in 1980. My daughter and son in law live in Desmoines. If I ever get a chance,I would love to strap on some skates and get out on the floor. I am heavy into RC but not at the level you were into. I consider you a Master. What you have given to the RC world far out does any fancy skating moves I ever came up with. I am glad you can still get out and do that. We had an 83 year old guy that used to skate at the Rink so 70 is nothing.
As a kid in the 50's and 60's. we used to skate at a rink that was in a big circus tent that was out at the County Fairgrounds. Had a lot of fun out there on summer nights!
