I'd say it's entry level hobby grade. I might get one myself, it looks cool.
Hobbygrade for me is when the product is "modular". So when all the parts are interchangeable .
I bought one of these for my son. it is a beast. with some slight mods it floats like a dream. upgraded the esc and 2s 50c lipo it moves. standing backflips when the track hooks up.
Seems pretty cool. I prefer the gray. A little top heavy it seems, probably do a lot better on the obstacles if you added a bit of weight at the bottom to keep the center of gravity lower. Almost reminds me of the Tyco Fast Trax from back in the day.
A true hobby grade version of the old Tyco Fast Traxx would be sweet!
Love the color I would definitely say it's steering is definitely hobby grade I believe the reason why the riptide has a problem climbing is because it's body to track treads ratio it's treads ar to light that always seems to be a problem with most RC track vehicles these days and some even in the past now with your fully realistic hobby RC tanks that's no problem thar track treads ar solid in that area but I'm hoping you might be able to solve a question that I've been trying to figure out and finally answer a unsolved mystery is Tyco RC fast Traxx from the 80s to this day still the king of speed ?
Great video vid Kev I love what you do and you have genuinely gotten me into rc bashing and have spent a ton of money on spare parts have you any suggestions on any cars?
"Loving the daily uploads kev. Keep up the great work. I came across your channel around 6 months ago and I can't get enough. I have never owned anything rc but due to your channel I will be ordering a xmaxx very soon can't wait to get out there and do some bashing
" I dont know how someone can hate you youre always so happy that makes me happy when i whatch youre videos
This tank is amazing I have one The only modification it needs is weight in the front That's why it has a hard time climbing over things and it stands up If you add a padlock to the front of it hanging or if you take off the cover there is space and you add weight in the front It won't lift up when it climbs things
"If I were to say what it reminds me of, it would be the Bigfoot Fastrax (not spelt correctly). As for toy / hobby grade, I would class toy grade having no replacement parts and hobby grade having replacement parts and some upgrade parts. Keep on having fun Kevin
" Would have been much more impressive and probably more capable if it had proper suspension. Still pretty cool.
We had a Tyco fast trax when we were kids. This is awesome
It looks like it needs a little more weight in the front to keep it from doing back flips. It is still cool and may be worth upgrading the motors esc's and tracks for better all around performance.
I've tuned mine with some 10x10mm brass sticks in the front...it's a difference like day and night. It crawls much better now
"""it's got a little bit of sensitivity, like some of my viewers"" points middle finger at sub button This is why I love this guy
" Kev, you get it. Ya don't have to go 30 mph to have fun and thrills. May your path be free of puddles, may the wind ALWAYS be perfectly directed thru your rear wing. Thanks mang!!!
i had one like this as a kid. it was called a Fast Traxx. had a design flaw where the rear axle shaft supports would crack from jumps/rear impacts at the chassis and cause the tracks to become loose and fall off
you should make the broken one brushless! that would be nuts
"Awesome video as always kev !! Just curious have you resolved the pinion issue on your xmaxx ? Also do you plan to take out the kraton 8s soon ? That thing looks really fun too
" Much love Kev!!! Keep up the stellar work!!!
I was curious do you keep every remote for all of your main cars? Or do you have one primary controller with the receivers paired to it? I don¡¯t know if this is common but I was tired of having four controls and just bought a fly sky remote and a bunch of receivers. So far it¡¯s been working very well has anyone encountered any issues with doing this for any reason?
Hey Kev, what are you gonna do when you run out of storage space for your r/c cars? Also, how do you decide which cars you will take to a bash outing? Cheers from the US.
Bro i have to say one thing i been watching your videos for a couple days now and I wish I had you as a friend because you have fun and don't care if you break something and been following you and you turned your life around and now make a shit tone of money. I'm going to try selling on eBay myself thanks for the inspiration
Get the metal tracks for yours see if it climbs better with them on for better traction. Seems to be more of an assault vehicle than a crawler but looks great fun
This reminds me of a Tyco Fast Traxx I had as a kid, for Tyco it was insanely durable toy.
Question Kev, how come you haven¡¯t tried any Redcat Racing RC¡¯s? They are cheap compared to other name brands and have great parts availability in my opinion!
I would consider buying this tank because first thing it's fun, second thing is variable throttle and steering, third thing is it looks cool, fourth thing is that seems to be somewhat of a semi-hobby grade. What I mean by that is it's got the basics needed for a hobby grade but they just didn't perfect these basics if you get what I mean
This was neat. I wonder if you can get little TPU sticky tape pieces and improve the traction on the tracks
Loving your videos mate! Have got me back into the R/C game!
I have this one for a little demolition group I have. What I did was add a few heavy washers on the inside of the front end to keep the end down. Helps a lot
You can notice that the front end is very flip friendly on the tank and is contributing to the lack of grip over the obstacles, so I suppose you can add some weight hidden away I the chassis. SPeed doesn't really matter even though it has decent power, because its basically a crawler anyway like you said kev. I always get my inspiration off you as to what to buy my nephew and nice for their rc's, your doing a great job, keep it up dude
you should convert it to a 3s brushless system. it'll be hobby grade and insane.
I will call it hobby grade when you can get spare parts for it, but it looks like a fun tank to drive!
Kev you should do a review of the VRX rh1052 crawler from banggood, it looks like a good contender for your other crawlers with its 2 speed transmission .
its an entry level hobby grade truck. Training for a more tuneable, customizeable vehicle. It looks really fun and cool to bash around in the basement or wherever.
You should convert the white one into a brushless version that would be really cool.
Such an interesting channel kev. Loads of content man. Keep it up
Make an god ESC and the 50000rpm motor in the tank
That things pretty cool... but it¡¯d be awesome with a high powered brushless system and an easy throttle finger.
Love the videos! Love how you are yourself in them!
Love the videos like I always say your just a hoot to watch ... and always have exciting content .... the problem with the ripsaw even the full size ripsaw is the step angle of the rear track setup its always doing a wheelie under load if it was more flat it wouldn't always wanna do a wheelie that bieng said I hVe dreamed about having a real ripsaw since I seen the brothers who invented it testing it in the sand pit behind my house like 15 or more years ago
"Fun fact. That RC tank is made out of real life tank it's purpose was to go oof raod and support infantry. And it can go up to 65 degree angles .as long as I can remember.
" I¡¯m a little(lot) late to the ¡°party¡± but I¡¯d put some tiny ¡°ice studs(screws)¡± in the tracks to get better traction?
I bought that one in white a couple months ago on the app wish for $45 and I didn't think to much of it but it did say it had a 360 brush motor so I said what the heck. I couldn't believe how awesome it's performed and looked so that much money. The one I received had two big compartments underneath one for the battery and one for the charger. It had a 7.4 4200 mAh battery and a spot 4 either another battery. The other compartment had the charging cord that was in there when I purchased it. I have since took it's apart I had to do a few minor adjustments and put a 540 motor and a S2 5000mah 2 cell battery. I had to dremel the compartment divider to accommodate the battery I also put 2 clamps to hold the battery in place and that not only made it a lot faster but the weight of the 540 and the heavy battery made the front heavier so it doesn't flip up as much over Terrain. I also glued a rubber gasket around the battery compartment to keep any water and replace the on button with a waterproof one. For $45 I ordered a custom beefier track with a lots of traction for the snow and a brighter light kit on the top in front of the doors and 2 LED lights in the front weather supposed to be. I have received the tracks and they fit perfectly and what a difference it makes on any Terrain I'm just waiting for the snow to fall. As of right now sign has to say it does around 45 to 55 mph and the run time is about 40 minutes. Seeing it so fast that you cannot put at Full Throttle from the start I was going to put a wheelie bar on it but don't know how that would look on a sport tank so it's either take it slow from the start or put a wheelie bar on it. What do you all think?
"Dgital proportional tech has been cheap enough for low toy grade since 2000s. Hell even my early 90s Nikko/radio shack toy buggies were digital proportional.

For me, hobby grade =easily disassembled, , tuned and repairable by owner, can easily accept off the shelf electronics and parts.
" This is the type of content that YouTube was made for
Kev your AWESOME!!! Just one question, I live in Texas USA, and Banggood won¡¯t ship to the US. Do you know how I can get the products you review? Thanks again!! Love your videos (:
Hey kev I just wanted to add that you cant compare toy grade to to hobby grade by just the steering and throttle because if you look at new bright DC toys they have incremental steering and throttle but you cant buy parts for them but honestly I dont think the tank is fast enough to break your have to drop it or something lol cheers mate
I feel like it has a lot of potential. Maybe better tracks and weight distribution would help it shine.
I love this channel I recently bought my first hobby grade rc car and this channel inspired me to buy it and I love to drive it every day
Great channel, just subscribed. Wondered if you could recommend a n rc car for a complete beginner that can kind of do it all? Looking around the ?60 mark. Seen your reviews of the 12428, is that what you would recommend or is there something better?
That¡¯s cool, and Richard Hammond Reviewed the real tank on the Grand Tour. It¡¯s call the Ripsaw EV2
Hi Kev! I¡¯ve been a viewer since late last year and have greatly enjoyed all of your content so far. My friend got me into the rc hobby late last year as well and since then I¡¯ve gotten a HBX Rampage thanks to your video with Pat covering the X-mas gift RC cars. I also received a Team Associated Reflex 14b from the same friend who got me into the hobby. It¡¯s a hobby-grade buggy that I¡¯m pretty sure can handle 3s out of the box? I¡¯ll have to check. Anyways, I also got a Traxxas Rustler 2wd brushed and I¡¯ve been having a lot of fun with it. Luckily I haven¡¯t split the chassis in half, yet... Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself as a big fan and I hope that you can keep making cool content like this!
This is the lone surviving rc car in my collection that still has the controller, battery and charger.
Hot glue some perpendicular beads of glue on those tracks and it would climb a lot more stuff due to the increased grip. Might flip over less since you can climb slower, beeping the nose from popping up and over so easily
"Hi Kev, core loving the RGT, yeah I¡¯m not a fan of the tank they seem quite popular but definitely not my kind of rc a bit too kid toy like.. my 10 year old nephew would like it though for sure.. Turn it brushless and send it to the moon. Happy rcing Kev
" Those treads have no bite at all, they're like the drag slick equivalent of a track. Definitely would perform better with studded tracks
Needs more front end weight, I love it though, would be great for my friend who is ankle deep into anything military related whatsoever.
You could take the flat weights they put on the inside of a rim to balance them and add some of those weights to underneath the front of the tank and I think that would help some
